A lot of the time the problem is caused the person using the Mac, not the device. Having used Canon for a number of years, I would argue this point.

I think they are very much lacking in support for older equipment, unlike HP who supplied all the necessary info to install my old printer, and it all worked perfectly first time.

So you do need some other scanning application to initiate the image capture.Īfter spending so much time looking on forums, I am somewhat surprised to see so many Mac users who have problems with Canon equipment. ScanGear is the preview window that you see after you select to scan using the Canon scanner. ScanGear will not self install but maybe it needs another programme to open, This is not the correct procedure so it is not surprising that it didn't work correctly. I dragged it into the folder just to see what would happen, and the sub folder is black in colour with the letters exec, which is like a windows.exe file.

The ds file will be automatically installed into this location by the driver installer. The TWAIN Data Sources folder should contain your CanoScan 5000F.ds file, not ScanGear. When I follow the directions of the previous reply I do not find ScanGear in the twain folder. As I said I'm new to this system, so I hope somebody can assist me. I read on one forum that ScanGear will not work with OSX. After spending so much time looking on forums, I am somewhat surprised to see so many Mac users who have problems with Canon equipment. ScanGear will not self install but maybe it needs another programme to open, so I installed PhotoStudio but I cannot establish a link. I've downloaded the latest drivers, but my system asks where to install, and I do not know, except that I don't think the App folder is the correct place. The scanner will work under Toolbox, but my Mac will not recognise ScanGear. I am very new to Mac (ex Windows) and I am only getting familiar with the system. I've spent days at it, and I've looked up nearly every forum on the net. Use DiskMaker X to create the bootable USB deviceĮ) you can use the USB device to boot your Friend's Mac and install Mountain Lion.I have a similar problem with a CanoScan5000F. It can also be a regular USB external disk. If using a Flash Drive, it should be at least 8GB in size.

Now you can redeem the Mountain Lion redemption code and download Mountain Lion which will be signed using your Friends Apple ID.ĭ) Create a bootable installer on an external USB device.

Also the redemption code will be mailed to your Friends Apple ID associated email address.Ĭ) Using another Mac, start Applications -> App Store, and change the login account to your Friends Apple ID (this is very important). You need to do this using your Friends Apple ID, as everything will be signed with that Apple ID going forward, and you do not want someone else having signed it, as it will just cause problems in the future. The sequence of events is you go to the on-line Apple web site and buy a redemption code for Mountain Lion. So buying a digital version of Mountain Lion would not help?Ī) your friends Mac MUST be able to run Mountain Lionī) you would need to use another Mac to download Mountain Lion, as you need to have the Applications -> App Store to do the download.
